Linklaters has hired David Lucking, global co-head of financial markets, and partners John Hwang, Derek Poon, and Dan Guyder from A&O Shearman. This quartet of lawyers joins the firm's Finance practice in its New York office.
The firm stated that the new partners will strengthen the group's US and global offerings in derivatives, securitization, and restructuring. Their arrival follows recent high-profile partner hires for Linklaters in the US, including a prominent mergers and acquisitions team led by Global Corporate Chairman George Casey and Global Chemicals Leader Heiko Schiwek, US Capital Solutions & Special Situations Director Michael Torkin, and Global International Arbitration Co-Chairman Joseph Profaizer.

David has particular expertise in derivatives and structured finance transactions, as well as the regulatory framework underpinning the US derivatives market. He will further strengthen Linklaters’ world-class US derivatives practice, led by partners Doug Donahue and Will Liu. David also deepens the practice’s extensive experience in Significant Risk Transfer transactions, a critical regulatory capital management tool for the firm’s major banking clients, and an increasingly popular investment opportunity for many of Linklaters’ private lending clients, including in the US.
John and Derek led the Chambers-ranked US asset securitization and finance practice at their previous firm. They specialize in a variety of structures and asset classes, from securitizations of traditional commercial and consumer assets to esoteric finances of digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and aviation. They have led a number of innovative, market-leading structures, both in the US and in cross-border markets. John and Derek's addition to Linklaters' global platform will enable the firm to offer clients a fully integrated portfolio of structured and complex finance solutions.
Dan has over 25 years of experience representing secured and unsecured creditors, creditor committees, ad hoc bondholder committees, and debtors in numerous out-of-court restructurings, bankruptcy cases, and cross-border insolvency proceedings across the United States. He will bring greater depth to Linklaters' growing U.S. restructuring and insolvency practice and help support the structured finance work done by the rest of the team.
