FAS Advogados , acting in cooperation with the international firm CMS, announced the addition of Amanda Cascaes as a new partner in its Civil Litigation practice. This move is part of the firm’s expansion strategy, which aims to double the number of partners by 2030 through a combination of internal promotions and lateral hires in areas considered priorities for its clients.

For Amanda, the increasing sophistication of conflicts related to the digital environment demands an approach that goes beyond the traditional conduct of legal proceedings. “A dispute involving a platform, a technology company, or a data-intensive business is rarely limited to a single legal dimension today. This addition comes at a time of transformation within the litigation field itself. The increasing digitization of operations, the intensification of data collection and processing, and the advancement of regulation have increased companies’ exposure to disputes that frequently extend beyond the traditional boundaries of judicial proceedings and simultaneously involve legal, technological, regulatory, and reputational aspects.
Among the topics that form part of her professional experience are discussions related to the civil liability of providers and digital platforms, including issues arising from Brazil’s Marco Civil de Internet and new regulations for the protection of children and adolescents in the digital environment, including the so-called ECA Digital.

Amanda also has professional and academic experience in the healthcare and healthtech sectors, especially in matters related to civil liability and patient data protection.
“The healthcare sector is currently the focus of particularly complex legal discussions regarding civil liability and data processing. We are dealing with highly protected information, new technologies, the digitalization of care, and an increasingly sophisticated chain of providers and companies. Litigation in this area requires technical expertise, but also a very clear understanding of the effects a dispute can have on operations and on the relationship with patients and consumers,” Amanda explained.
According to the new partner, the opportunity to strengthen a litigation practice integrated with the firm’s other specialties was one of the determining factors in her decision to join FAS. “Strategic litigation is no longer an isolated front. The most effective solutions emerge when we manage to work in an integrated manner with specialists in regulation, technology, data protection, consumer law, corporate law, and other areas. Academic and institutional experience
Alongside her professional activity, Amanda has built an academic and institutional career focused on issues related to Civil Law, civil liability, technology, health and consumer relations.
The lawyer has already been nominated by The Legal 500 for the Rising Star of the Year award in the Dispute Resolution: Technology, Media & Telecommunications category. She is currently the Publications Coordinator for the Consumer Relations Committee of the Brazilian Institute for Competition, Consumer and International Trade Studies (IBRAC).
She is also an evaluator for the Journal of the Court of Auditors of the Union (RTCU) and the Journal of Health Law of the USP. Author of more than 20 national and international publications, she wrote the book Economic Analysis of Civil Liability: Equitable Reduction of Compensation and Risk Activities and coordinated works dedicated to topics such as artificial intelligence, ESG, regulation and consumer relations.
Amanda holds a doctorate in Civil Law from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a master’s degree in Private Law from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). She specializes in Health Law from PUC-Rio, in Health and Pharmaceutical Law and Economics from the University of Lisbon, and in Civil Procedural Law from PUCRS. She also holds a law degree from PUCRS.
