DLA Piper expanded its Insurance practice in Lima with the arrival of partners Gabriel Loli and Rabeth Pareja, who joined the firm along with four associates. The team of six lawyers advises insurers, reinsurers, brokers, adjusters, and policyholders on coverage, claims management, and complex disputes within the sector.
Loli has nearly two decades of experience and works at the intersection of construction and engineering risk and insurance coverage. She advises insurers, reinsurers, brokers, adjusters, and policyholders on the interpretation of complex policies, with a special focus on CAR policies, and represents them in arbitrations before the country’s leading arbitration centers.
Pareja focuses his practice on claims management and liability coverage. Previously, he led the complex claims department for general risks at one of Peru’s leading insurers and handled claims at a credit and surety insurer—experience that informs how he establishes coverage positions for his clients. He also advises on the regulatory framework applicable to brokers, reinsurers, and adjusters.
“Peru’s infrastructure cycle is changing the way risk is allocated, insured, and discussed,” said Sergio Barboza, co-managing partner of DLA Piper’s Lima office. “A delay, a material loss, or a weather event almost never remains within a single area of expertise: it can simultaneously trigger contractual clauses, guarantees, construction and interruption coverage, and arbitration. The addition of Gabriel and Rabeth allows us to advise clients throughout this process, from policy drafting to the most complex claim.”
“In Peru, financing, construction, and insurance have always been seen as separate worlds, but today business and investment require advisory services that integrate them,” said Luis Vargas, co-managing partner of the Lima office. “Over the past year, we invested in building that capability, paying close attention to how our clients’ needs and the opportunities in the Peruvian market are evolving: first, we expanded our projects and infrastructure team, and now we’re adding a leading insurance practice. Gabriel and Rabeth strengthen the multidisciplinary and comprehensive advisory services that clients are increasingly seeking.”
DLA Piper’s Insurance practice covers the entire business chain: transactional and regulatory matters, commercial disputes, claims, competition, restructurings, and emergency response. Its clients range from startups to established multinational life and general insurance (re)insurers, Lloyd’s entities, intermediaries, banks, capital providers (hedge funds, private equity funds, and venture capital funds), regulators, and other players in the insurance industry.
