Auren has appointed Francisco José Fernández Romero as a new partner at Auren Legal to launch the legal practice in its Seville office. He will also assume national leadership of the Public-Private Partnerships area, a key strategic focus for the firm as it seeks to strengthen its market position.

A Doctor of Law and lawyer with over 25 years of experience, he was the managing partner of Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo in Andalusia before joining Auren. Throughout his career, he has held prominent positions in the legal field, including Corporate Legal and Risk Director at AYESA, Legal Director at KPMG in Andalusia, and Head of Procurement for public infrastructure companies of the Andalusian Regional Government.
In academia, he is a professor at Loyola University and previously directed the Master’s programs in Law and Corporate Legal Advice. He has been awarded the Gold Medal for Professional Merit by the Ministry of Labor.
Specializing in the public sector, public procurement, and governance, Francisco José advises both public administrations and private companies in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, water, transportation, and technology. Throughout his career, he has participated in complex bidding processes, public administration restructuring, concessions, operational audits, the purchase and sale of public assets, and corporate transactions related to technological innovation.
In recent years, it has focused its activity on advising on public-private partnerships, attracting investments, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data governance and compliance.
National expansion that broadens legal advice
With the addition of Francisco José and his team, Auren launches a national Public-Private collaboration area that will offer comprehensive advice on public procurement, technology, innovation, governance and business investment projects, for both public administrations and private companies in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, water, education, health, ports, transport or social services.
This integration is part of the firm’s national expansion strategy, driven by its investment partner, Waterland Private Equity. The opening of the Legal department in Seville strengthens the firm’s presence in Andalusia and consolidates its legal practice in a key market for business development in Spain. The firm’s objective in Andalusia is to double its revenue over the next three years, combining organic growth, talent acquisition, integration of new capabilities—especially in the areas of technology and innovation—and the addition of new firms that complement its value proposition.
With this acquisition, Auren expands its capabilities in comprehensive legal advice, as well as adding a solid client portfolio that will now have access to a multidisciplinary service offering. Furthermore, it expects to close the fiscal year with a turnover of approximately €150 million.
