By Heidi Maldonado

White & Case announced the appointment of partners Rodrigo Domínguez Sotomayor and Silvia Marchili as new co-heads of its Latin America department, replacing Christian Hansen, who is retiring.

Rodrigo Domínguez is a partner in White & Case’s Mergers and Acquisitions practice and co-head of the firm’s Latin America Practice Group. He has more than 20 years of experience representing clients in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances, as well as in corporate matters throughout the Americas. He also advises on real estate matters related to traditional asset acquisitions, complex long-term lease structures, and large-scale project development. Rodrigo represents clients in various sectors, including energy and infrastructure, technology (including early-stage and growth capital financing transactions), manufacturing, and consumer products.

Over the years, he has served as an officer and board member of several local and national organizations focused on the Hispanic community.

Silvia M. Marchili, co-head of the firm’s Latin America Practice Group, specializes in complex international arbitration cases involving commercial and investment claims. She handles international arbitration and litigation in Latin America and Africa, as well as in various sectors, including infrastructure, oil and gas, energy, mining, and air transport. Silvia is bilingual and trained in civil and common law.

With over 20 years of experience, Silvia represents parties in investment arbitrations before international tribunals under the World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes Convention, as well as under other arbitration rules. In recent cases, she has obtained some of the largest awards under ICSID Bilateral Investment Treaties ever received by foreign investors. An expert in investment arbitration, Silvia is co-author of the treatise Annulment under the ICSID Convention (Oxford University Press, 2012).

Silvia has presided, in first and second instance, over dozens of investment arbitrations against Latin American states and state entities. She is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is regularly recognized by leading directories in the field of dispute resolution, such as Chambers, Global Arbitration Review, The Legal 500, and Lexology, among others.
