Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Lorena Fatás as a partner in its Litigation practice in the Madrid office. She previously served as a State Attorney in the Special Department for Economics, Energy, and the Environment at the State Attorney’s Office. She is widely recognized for her experience in complex litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters related to economic policy, energy transition, and environmental regulations.

She has extensive experience in arbitration and litigation. Before joining the State Attorney’s Office in the Special Department for Economy, Energy and the Environment, she worked for more than five years in the International Arbitration Department of the Government of Spain, where she was appointed Deputy Head in 2021. During this period, she advised and represented the Kingdom of Spain in complex investor-state disputes, particularly under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) and bilateral investment treaties (BITs).
His experience encompasses investment and commercial disputes, representation of sovereign states, and advising in sectors such as banking, energy, infrastructure, and public enterprises. He has also worked extensively on the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards in multiple jurisdictions.
Her work as a litigator has been recognized by UNCITRAL, having participated in one of its working groups on the reform of the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) system. She also has extensive experience in key procedural law and arbitration institutions, such as ICSID and the SCC.
