By Heidi Maldonado

The international law firm Jones Day has announced the promotion of Marta de Cara to of counsel in its International Litigation and Arbitration practice in Madrid, effective January 2026.

With more than 12 years’ experience, Marta de Cara represents companies and financial institutions in complex civil and commercial litigation before the Spanish courts, as well as in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. Her practice spans the construction and energy sectors and includes disputes relating to large-scale civil engineering projects, damages claims, mergers and acquisitions, directors’ liability, commercial and distribution disputes, agency and franchising matters, and banking and finance contracts, as well as intellectual and industrial property rights.

She has appeared before all levels of the Spanish court system, including the Supreme Court, and has acted as counsel in both ad hoc and institutional arbitrations under the UNCITRAL and ICC Rules, as well as in investment treaty arbitrations before ICSID. Her recent work has focused particularly on construction, transport and infrastructure, and the energy transition. She also has experience in insolvency proceedings.

“Marta has rapidly established herself as a cornerstone of the Madrid team through the consistent excellence of her work,” said Marta Delgado Echevarría, Managing Partner of Jones Day’s Madrid office. “Her contribution has made her an invaluable asset to our clients, to the International Litigation and Arbitration team, and to the office as a whole. She exemplifies the firm’s core values: committed leadership, dedication, genuine collegiality and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.”

Marta de Cara is a member of the Madrid Bar Association, the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club (CEIA), and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
