Ius+Aequitas strengthens its collective action and consumer practice with Alicia Agüero as 'of counsel'

By Heidi Maldonado

Ius+Aequitas Trial Lawyers has incorporated of counsel Alicia Agüero,[/ Alicia Agüero,] PhD in Law, Professor of Civil Law at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and President of the Consumer Arbitration Colleges of the Community of Madrid, with the aim of strengthening its litigation practice, collective actions, consumer and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods.

The addition of Agüero reflects the firm’s commitment to strengthening an area closely linked to its identity and its dedication to protecting consumer rights. As a certified B Corp, Ius+Aequitas has a long history of focusing on defending collective interests and handling high-impact social litigation, an area in which the new of counsel will contribute her renowned academic and institutional experience.

“Collective actions are one of the most effective tools for guaranteeing access to justice and balancing the position of consumers. They are an instrument of democracy that gives effect to the mandate of Article 51 of the Spanish Constitution to effectively protect the legitimate interests of consumers and users. The addition of Alicia Agüero, who has dedicated her academic and institutional career to the study of Consumer Law and has in-depth knowledge of the complexity of this field, represents enormous added value for the firm. Her profile perfectly aligns with our approach to the legal profession and with the values that inspire Ius+Aequitas as a certified B Corp,” stated Eliseo M. Martínez, managing partner of Ius+Aequitas Trial Lawyers.

More from Alicia Agüero

A specialist in Civil Law and Consumer Law, Alicia Agüero holds a doctorate in Law and is a tenured professor of Civil Law at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. She combines her academic work with extensive institutional involvement as president of the Consumer Arbitration Boards of the Community of Madrid, which has allowed her to develop broad experience in out-of-court dispute resolution and in the design and interpretation of consumer protection regulations.

With this appointment, Ius+Aequitas further reinforces its long-standing ties with the university and its commitment to academic excellence as a distinguishing feature of its legal practice. Along these lines, the firm is expanding its team of counsel, which already includes José Ángel Torres Lana, PhD in Law from the University of Navarra and of counsel in the areas of Civil Litigation and ADR, and Ana Isabel Serrano, PhD in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, of counsel in the area of Criminal Litigation.

“I am joining Ius+Aequitas Trial Lawyers with great enthusiasm and a desire to contribute at a time when litigation in consumer, contract, and financial markets matters is facing significant challenges. I hope to contribute, based on my academic and research experience, to the development of sound and innovative legal solutions that add value for the firm’s clients,” stated Alicia Agüero Ortiz, of counsel at Ius+Aequitas Trial Lawyers.

The arrival of Alicia Agüero will allow the continued development of the areas of collective actions and consumer law, at a time of increasing regulatory complexity and an increase in litigation in defense of consumer rights, consolidating Ius+Aequitas’ position as a firm specializing in strategic litigation and dispute resolution.
