Fieldfisher continues to strengthen its Corporate M&A practice in Spain with the addition of Rafael Durán to its Madrid office. His arrival as a partner marks the firm’s first hire of 2026 and aligns with its growth strategy in corporate and commercial transactions.
Fieldfisher’s Corporate M&A practice in Spain, led by the firm’s managing partner, Rodrigo Martos, has established itself as one of the firm’s key practice areas. The team includes, among others, partner Paloma Mato, as well as partners Pablo Vinageras and Javier Fuentes de Tienda, the latter recently promoted to partner.
Rafael Durán has extensive experience advising companies, venture capital funds, family offices, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and startups on M&A transactions. Throughout his career, he has developed his practice at leading law firms such as PwC, Ramón y Cajal Abogados, and Pinsent Masons. His work covers a wide range of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and investment rounds, both domestic and cross-border, as well as ongoing corporate legal advice to companies. He also serves as secretary to the board of directors of several companies.
Although he has participated in transactions across multiple sectors, Rafael has a particular focus on projects related to real estate, infrastructure, technology and healthcare. On joining the firm, Rafael Durán stated that he is “very excited to join Fieldfisher’s project in Spain and contribute to its growth in this new phase. The team’s human and professional qualities were a decisive factor in my decision to take this step, and I am convinced that together we can continue building a solid and leading M&A practice in the sector. I embrace this challenge with enthusiasm and a determination to add value from day one.”
Rodrigo Martos, managing partner of Fieldfisher in Spain and head of the Corporate M&A practice, commented that “Rafael’s addition represents a further step in the development of our Corporate M&A practice in Spain. His experience in complex transactions and his knowledge of the market will bring great value to both our clients and the team. We are convinced that his profile is a perfect fit with Fieldfisher’s growth plan and with our approach to the practice of law.”
Finally, Héctor Jausàs, president of Fieldfisher in Spain, stated that “Rafael’s addition forms part of our growth and consolidation strategy in Spain. The Corporate M&A practice is key to the firm’s development and to supporting our clients in their expansion, investment and business transformation processes.”
