Eversheds Sutherland welcomes Ricardo Martinez as a financial partner in New York

By Heidi Maldonado

Eversheds Sutherland announced the appointment of Ricardo Martinez as a new partner in its US Finance practice, based in New York. His addition brings extensive experience in trade finance and multi-jurisdictional project finance, enabling the firm to better support clients engaged in cross-border transactions and strengthen the team’s finance and restructuring capabilities.

For more than two decades, Martínez has represented private equity funds, commercial and investment banks, Fortune 500 companies, multilateral development banks, and U.S. government agencies in project finance, trade and acquisitions, asset-backed and working capital lines of credit, as well as infrastructure and energy financing. He has closed transactions in most Latin American jurisdictions and has advised on matters in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

“Rick’s arrival is a significant addition to our financial platform and further strengthens our ability to support clients in complex cross-border matters,” said Lino Mendiola, global co-CEO and CEO of Eversheds Sutherland in the United States. “He brings extensive international experience and a deep understanding of the ever-evolving financial landscape, especially now that clients are seeking opportunities in infrastructure, trade, and other globally focused sectors.”

“We are pleased to welcome Rick to our US Finance practice group as we continue the strategic expansion of the team in response to our clients’ evolving needs,” said David Wender, partner and leader of the US Finance practice group. “Rick brings a strong combination of commercial finance and project finance experience that significantly enhances our ability to advise on complex financings involving multiple jurisdictions, stakeholders, and structures.”

“I am excited to join Eversheds Sutherland and continue developing my multi-jurisdictional practice in collaboration with my colleagues in the firm’s finance, tax, international trade, and litigation teams,” said Martínez. “Trade and project finance transactions often involve multiple stakeholders, and clients benefit from coordinated advice that draws on experience across diverse practice areas and jurisdictions. Eversheds Sutherland provides a strong platform to support clients in these complex cross-border matters and to adapt quickly, with a cutting-edge legal and business perspective, to ever-evolving global markets.”

Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, the new partner worked at a major international law firm, where he headed the Trade Finance Department for the Americas, advising on cross-border trade, project finance and leveraged finance for lenders, sponsors and corporate borrowers.
