The international law firm Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Alberto Pérez Hernández as the new Legal Director of the Competition and EU Law Department at its Spanish office, led by Crisanto Pérez-Abad. With this appointment, the firm strengthens one of its strategic areas in Spain, enhancing its capabilities in competition law and FDI (Financial Intelligence Division) in a context marked by increased transactional, regulatory, and sanctioning activity in competition matters.

A lawyer specializing in Competition and EU Law, Pérez Hernández has extensive experience and a solid international track record advising companies on merger control proceedings and sanctioning procedures for cartels and abuse of dominant position, both before the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) and the European Commission. He has advised clients in a wide range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, defense, and sports. He has also represented companies before Spanish courts in damages claims and stand-alone litigation for anti-competitive practices, as well as before the Court of Justice of the European Union in matters of State aid.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Pérez spent his career at Uría Menéndez (2017 – April 2026), where he worked in the Competition and European Union Law department in the Brussels and Madrid offices. During that time, he also completed a visiting lawyer position in the Competition Group of the law firm Slaughter and May in London (January – July 2024), further developing his international profile and specialization in European Competition Law.
A graduate in Law from the University of Salamanca, Pérez holds a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law from King’s College London and a Master’s degree in Legal Practice from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He also completed his studies with an academic exchange program at KU Leuven (Belgium).
He combines his professional activity with teaching, giving sessions on horizontal agreements in the Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession at UC3M and on merger control in the Diploma of Expertise in Competition Law. He is the author of publications in leading international journals such as the Oxford Journal of European Competition Law and Practice, EU Law Live, and the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Magazine.
