Eskariam strengthens its litigation team with the addition of María Cecilia Páez Montero

By Heidi Maldonado

Eskariam, a Spanish firm specializing in complex litigation and damage claims, has added María Cecilia Páez Montero, an expert lawyer in cross-border litigation and antitrust private enforcement.

The arrival of María Cecilia marks the firm’s third senior appointment in recent weeks, following the additions of Covadonga Garralda (partner) and María Varela (counsel). These moves reflect Eskariam’s objective of bringing together the most experienced specialists in the market for damage claims, at a time when the technical sophistication of the equipment has become a differentiating factor in this type of litigation.

María Cecilia Páez Montero, who joins Eskariam as a senior associate, specializes in civil and commercial litigation, with over 15 years of experience managing complex national and international proceedings. Throughout her career, she has advised companies on contractual disputes, damage claims, civil liability, and litigation arising from competition law violations.

She began her professional career in Argentina and, after joining Cuatrecasas in 2010, participated in some of the major antitrust private enforcement cases in various European jurisdictions. Subsequently, she led the civil liability practice at Rauda, a firm within the Cuatrecasas group, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing high-volume, complex litigation. A member of the Spanish Bar Association, in addition to her professional practice, she teaches at ISDE and holds an LLM in International Business Law.

“Eskariam understands private enforcement for what it is: one of the most complex disciplines in litigation, and tackles it with truly specialized teams. That’s why I’m especially excited to join this project alongside colleagues with whom I share the same vision,” said María Cecilia Páez Montero.

For David Fernández, CEO of Eskariam, talent is the cornerstone of the firm’s growth plan. “María Cecilia’s experience, with over a decade dedicated to high-value strategic competition litigation, perfectly aligns with our ambition to assemble the best possible team for damages claims. Our goal is to continue adding top lawyers and specialists.”

The firm, which is currently leading high-impact cases in Spain such as the milk cartel and the hoteliers’ claim against Booking.com, has set itself the goal of reaching €3.5 billion in claims under management by 2030. Adding highly specialized and experienced lawyers and professionals is one of Eskariam’s priorities.
