Andersen has appointed nine new partners: five equity partners and four professional partners. These appointments reflect the continued relevance of the partnership model of the firm led by José Vicente Morote and the implementation of a real and transparent career plan based on technical excellence and the development of internal talent.
As the managing partner explained, “this partnership is a key piece of Andersen’s strategy to consolidate its position as a leading firm in the Iberian Peninsula,” and added that “these appointments are based on the development of internal talent and, especially, on the commitment of these professionals to a long-term project, which allows us to strengthen our partnership model, expand our capabilities and consistently advance in building a solid, integrated and forward-thinking firm in Spain and Portugal.”
The new equity partners are: Carlos Rodríguez Sau, head of legaltech; Tomás Rivero, tax and head of the Seville office; Javier Lacleta, partner and co-head of restructuring and special situations; Marta Morales, partner and co-head of restructuring and special situations; and Carlos Morales, public and regulatory law. They are joined by four new professional partners: Rafael Leal and Jesús Alemany, both tax; María Soler, of restructurings and special situations; and, in Portugal, Gonçalo Rhodes, partner of real estate and urban planning.
In addition, the firm approved 66 additional promotions, 57.8% of which went to women, underscoring Andersen’s commitment to equal opportunities for professional development.
New quota members
Carlos Rodríguez Sau has extensive experience in regulatory compliance, technology regulation, and artificial intelligence. He regularly works on AI projects for IBEX 35 companies, advising them on the application of these technologies. His in-depth knowledge of adapting regulatory frameworks to organizations’ internal processes, especially in areas such as data protection, cybersecurity, and the responsible use of AI, has been key to driving Andersen’s progress in digital transformation and technology compliance.
Tomás Rivero, from the Seville office, specializes in tax advice for corporate groups and family businesses, tax planning, and complex restructuring and acquisition transactions. He has spearheaded the office’s positioning as a leading legal and tax advisor in the region and has driven innovation in the application of artificial intelligence and process automation in the legal and tax fields.
Javier Lacleta, from the restructuring and special situations area, has a solid legal background at the European level, combined with professional experience in national and international environments. This allows him to approach highly complex transactions from a comprehensive perspective, with a particular focus on real estate transactions and complex restructurings. As co-head of the area, he plays a key role in its development, consolidating Andersen’s position in a market characterized by an increase in distressed debt and corporate restructuring transactions.
Marta Morales, specializing in restructuring and special situations, has extensive experience advising on corporate M&A, restructuring processes, and distressed transactions. Throughout her career, she has participated in some of the most significant insolvency cases in the Spanish market, contributing to both strategy development and legal counsel for debtors, creditors, and institutions. Her experience provides a comprehensive and strategic perspective in complex scenarios, combining business acumen with strong technical expertise, making her a key figure in the development of the Restructuring practice.
Carlos Morales Ruiz, a public and regulatory law specialist, focuses on urban planning and public procurement. He regularly advises national and international clients in the real estate and tourism sectors, as well as urban and port service operators, on both transactions and litigation. He brings solid technical knowledge and a broad sectoral perspective, enabling him to handle complex transactions and defend clients’ interests in administrative and judicial proceedings. He also combines his professional work with teaching at various postgraduate and undergraduate university levels.
New professional partners
Rafael Leal, a tax advisor, specializes in transfer pricing, leading the business development area of the European transfer pricing service line and an active member of the Latin American service line. He regularly advises on strategic planning, restructuring, defense, and compliance projects, as well as on related-party transactions for multinational groups, in coordination with other firms in the Andersen network and with the firm’s Tax and Corporate Law departments.
Jesús Alemany, a tax specialist, has extensive experience in providing tax advisory services to national and international companies and corporate groups, with a particular focus on consolidated tax groups. He co-leads the Personal Client Services division, where he promotes comprehensive tax advice for high-net-worth clients, addressing planning, international taxation, and wealth structuring in a coordinated manner, always with a technical, rigorous approach aligned with the client’s needs.
María Soler, specializing in restructuring and special situations, is an insolvency and bankruptcy law specialist. She has participated in over 100 insolvency proceedings, representing both debtors and creditors, and has served as an insolvency administrator since 2014 in courts throughout Spain. Her experience combines strategic advice in corporate crisis situations, restructuring and refinancing processes, and highly complex insolvency proceedings. She regularly participates in specialized insolvency law forums and is the author of articles and contributions to collective works on this subject.
Gonçalo Rhodes, a real estate and urban planning lawyer in the Lisbon office, has a solid track record advising private and corporate clients on the creation and development of real estate projects. His experience combines technical knowledge of urban planning, a strategic vision of the real estate sector, and institutional experience, having worked in the Urban Planning Department of the Lisbon City Council and as an advisor to the President of the Constitutional Court.
