Centro Internacional e Ibero-American Arbitration Centre of Madrid (CIIAM) today presented its new corporate identity and official name, consolidating within its acronym the institutional trajectory of the Centre, previously known as Centro Internacional de Arbitraje de Madrid – Centro Iberoamericano de Arbitraje (CIAM-CIAR).
The event, moderated by Michelle Vasco, director of development at CIIAM, included contributions from Adolfo Díaz-Ambrona, president of the Madrid International Arbitration Association, who reviewed the origins and evolution of the Centre; María Agnes Salah, vice-president of the Centre, who referred to the recent alliance with CAM Santiago and the institution’s Ibero-American DNA; and José María Alonso, president of CIIAM, who unveiled the new brand and outlined its strategic vision.
The change of name and visual identity reflects a strategic evolution aimed at unifying the Centre’s history and strengthening its positioning as a leading institution in the administration of international arbitrations involving Ibero-American parties. Under its new identity, CIIAM presents a clear and contemporary brand while preserving the institutional value and prestige built over its trajectory.
“The transition to CIIAM is far more than a change of name: it is a strategic evolution that brings together the history of both denominations into a solid, modern identity with a forward-looking vision. In addition, our Ibero-American vocation is a differentiating feature compared with other international arbitration centres, as it provides a unique cultural and linguistic identity”, said José María Alonso.

An acronym fully integrating the international and Ibero-American dimensions
The new acronym “CIIAM” corresponds to the Centre’s full name: Centro Internacional e Ibero-Americano de Arbitraje de Madrid. Within this integrative narrative, the double “I” reinforces the idea that the institution operates across two closely interconnected spheres – international and Ibero-American – and conveys that the Ibero-American dimension is neither secondary nor ancillary, but fully embedded in its institutional nature.
This evolution in branding also reflects the Centre’s mission: to offer efficient, transparent and accessible procedures, to promote Spanish and Portuguese as languages of arbitration, and to strengthen legal links across the region.
A renewed identity aligned with institutional integration
The rebranding follows several institutional milestones since the Centre’s creation, including alliances with the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM), the Centro Iberoamericano de Arbitraje (CIAR), and, most recently, the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM Santiago). The latter agreement, signed in April 2025, represented a decisive step and a turning point for the Ibero-American ecosystem of international commercial arbitration.
CAM Santiago joined the institution with the same status as its founding courts: the Madrid Court of Arbitration (CAM) of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce; the Spanish Court of Arbitration (CEA) of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce; and the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA). Through the agreement with CAM Santiago, CIIAM consolidated its Ibero-American character and reinforced its commitment to promoting international arbitration across the region.
The incorporation of CAM Santiago strengthened the Centre’s capacity and resources to continue offering companies and legal practitioners an independent, transparent and efficient dispute resolution service, generating synergies through the exchange of resources, expertise and institutional relationships.
