Linklaters announced the appointment of Alejandro Martínez de Hoz as Director of Latin American Arbitration in Washington, D.C. With this move, Alejandro further strengthens Linklaters’ market-leading international arbitration practice and continues the firm’s expansion in the United States in the areas of litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and finance.
With over 17 years of experience in Latin American arbitration, Alejandro has represented clients in dozens of international disputes across various sectors and jurisdictions, with claims totaling tens of billions of dollars. His experience encompasses investment treaty arbitrations, international commercial arbitrations, mediations, and related disputes and negotiations. He has handled groundbreaking cases, including the first arbitration under the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement, a dispute concerning Guatemala’s first privately financed hydroelectric plant, and the development of innovative mediation mechanisms to resolve significant cross-border disputes.
Joe Profaizer, global co-head of international arbitration, said, “Alejandro is an arbitration lawyer with extensive experience and an exceptional reputation throughout Latin America. His addition reflects our ongoing commitment to building the strongest international arbitration team in the market and further strengthens our ability to advise clients on their most complex and significant disputes worldwide.”
Alejandro joins Linklaters at a time of significant growth for the firm’s US platform. Since fiscal year 2022, Linklaters has increased its US partnership by more than 75% with the addition of elite teams in mergers and acquisitions, litigation, and finance, and has more than doubled its US revenue and quadrupled its profit.
