Ana Julia García Jiménez will join the Real Estate practice led by Tomás Díaz Mielenhausen in the Madrid office of Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer as Of Counsel. Joining from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where she served as Counsel within the Global Transactions – Real Estate team, taking over the practice last year, she has nearly 20 years of experience advising national and international clients on top-tier corporate real estate transactions.
Their practice encompasses the purchase and sale of asset portfolios—hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, and logistics warehouses—NPLs and individual assets, joint ventures, real estate finance, commercial leases, sale and leaseback transactions, and construction contracts. Their client portfolio includes leading real estate companies, financial investors, REITs, investment banks and financial institutions, and other key players in the Spanish real estate market, including Azora and KKR. Among their most significant transactions are advising KKR on the formation of its joint ventures in Spain for the acquisition of Grupo Intertur’s hotel business in Mallorca and Ibiza and its subsequent divestment to Grupo Fattal in 2022, as well as its hostel platform; and advising Azora on the formation of its joint ventures in both the residential and student housing markets.
Ana Julia has completed her training with international placements at Freshfields’ offices in London and Frankfurt. Her extensive career has earned her continued recognition in leading international legal directories: she has been listed in Chambers Europe since 2017 and was a finalist for the Iberian Lawyer Forty Under 40 awards in 2019 and 2020. A graduate in Law and Business Administration (specializing in E-3) from the Pontifical University of Comillas (ICADE), she is a member of the Women in Legal World association.
Eduardo Soler Tappa, managing partner of HSF Kramer’s Madrid office, stated that “the addition of Ana Julia represents a further step in the growth and consolidation of our presence in Madrid, especially following the merger with Kramer. Her in-depth knowledge of the Spanish real estate market, her experience in highly complex transactions, and her network of relationships with leading institutional investors are assets that will immediately add value to our real estate practice. We are delighted to welcome her to the team.”
For his part, Tomás Díaz Mielenhausen, partner and head of the Real Estate practice in Madrid, said, “Ana Julia is one of the leading lawyers in the Spanish real estate sector. Her broad experience—from M&A and joint ventures to financing and construction contracts—makes her an invaluable addition to our practice. Her arrival will allow us to continue offering our clients top-tier advice on the most sophisticated transactions in the market.”
