The Imetame Group has reached an agreement with Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), a subsidiary of Hapag-Lloyd, to set up a joint venture for the development and operation of a new container terminal in Brazil.
Under the terms of the agreement, both companies will hold a 50% stake in Imetame Logística Porto, a company created to promote this strategic port infrastructure project. The new terminal, called Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz, will be located in Aracruz, in the state of Espírito Santo, and will operate as a modern transshipment facility and gateway port for international trade.
The terminal is expected to begin operations in mid-2028, with an estimated annual capacity of 1.2 million TEUs, 750 meters of berthing line, and state-of-the-art container handling equipment. With a depth of 17 meters, the infrastructure will be ready to operate with large ships. From a legal standpoint, Veirano Advogados advised the Imetame Group on the transaction, while Demarest Advogados acted as legal advisor to Hanseatic Global Terminals. The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
This project reinforces Brazil’s position as a regional logistics hub and highlights the growing interest of large international operators in investing in strategic port infrastructure in Latin America.
