Fidel Cadena joins Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo as a partner

By Heidi Maldonado

Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo strengthened its team with the addition of Fidel Cadena Serrano as a partner, one of the most experienced and recognized prosecutors in the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office, who joins the firm after more than four decades of experience linked to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Cadena Serrano joined the Public Prosecutor’s Office in 1979 and spent much of his career in various regional prosecutor’s offices before joining the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office in 2007. In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Senior Prosecutor of the Supreme Court and, in 2021, was appointed Chief Prosecutor of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office.

During his time at the Supreme Court, Cadena participated in some of the most significant criminal proceedings in recent decades, both legally and in terms of media attention. Among these, his involvement in the Catalan independence trial stands out, in which he acted as the public prosecutor before the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court.

His arrival at Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo strengthens the firm’s Economic Criminal Law practice, an area that encompasses both defense and prosecution before the courts, as well as preventive advice to companies and individuals and matters related to corporate compliance. The firm conducts its criminal practice before the National Court, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, and the European Court of Human Rights.

With the addition of Cadena, Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo strengthens its criminal law team comprised of highly experienced lawyers and legal experts specializing in criminal litigation and white-collar crime. Among its professionals are Juan Ortiz Úrculo, former Attorney General of Spain; Antonio Valverde Estepa, director and coordinator of the area; and Juan Saavedra Ruiz, emeritus magistrate of the Supreme Court and former president of the Criminal Division.

With his addition, Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo adds to its structure the experience of a jurist with an extensive career in the Public Prosecutor’s Office and a deep knowledge of criminal jurisdiction and the functioning of the Supreme Court.

Cadena’s arrival is part of Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo’s growth and specialization strategy, which in recent years has strengthened its teams with professionals with extensive experience in different branches of law and has committed to consolidating its capabilities in areas of legal specialization.
