Ecija achieved its greatest presence to date in the 2026 edition of Chambers and Partners Europe, with 13 practice areas and 25 individual recognitions in Spain and Portugal, consolidating its position as one of the leading firms in the European market.
Undisputed leadership in TMT
In Spain, Ecija maintains its Band 1 ranking—the highest distinction awarded by Chambers—in TMT: Information Technology and TMT: Media, reaffirming its dominance in the technology and digital sector. In addition to these positions, it also holds Band 2 in TMT: Data Protection, solidifying the firm’s position as the absolute market leader in technology, media, and data protection.
This is no coincidence: the firm’s own clients confirm it. In the words of one of them, quoted by Chambers: “They are truly excellent lawyers; they know how to handle any new situation.”
Sustained progress in strategic areas
The 2026 edition reflects solid growth in the highly complex areas of Corporate Compliance and Litigation: Highly Regarded, which are ranked in Band 2. The firm also adds two new entries in Spain: Sport and Employment: Highly Regarded, expanding its presence in increasingly important sectors. In total, 5 of the 9 ranked areas in Spain are in Band 1 or Band 2, meaning that more than half of the firm’s portfolio holds elite positions in the market.
Portugal, on the rise
In Portugal, Ecija strengthens its presence with four recognized practice areas. Of particular note is the addition of Corporate/M&A: Highly Regarded – a new addition this year – which complements its established positions in Competition/European Law, White-Collar Crime, and Employment.
A highly recognized team
At an individual level, the 2026 edition includes 25 recognized lawyers from Spain and Portugal, with 3 new entries and 5 improved rankings. Among the most notable achievements:
Alejandro Touriño achieves the category of Eminent Practitioner in both TMT: Information Technology and TMT: Data Protection, the highest recognition that Chambers awards to practicing lawyers, joining Hugo Écija who has held this distinction in TMT: Media for 20 years.
Librado Loriente Manzanares consolidates his projection by moving from Up & Coming to Band 3 in Litigation: Highly Regarded.
The edition also incorporates three new high-value individual entries: Carlos Martínez Cebrián in Employment: Highly Regarded, Daniel López in Data Protection and Miguel Sánchez Ruiz, who debuts directly in Capital Markets: Equity.
A firm with a vision for the future
The results of Chambers Europe 2026 reflect a firm model that is consistently growing, with strong, specialized teams capable of competing at the highest level in all key market areas. With a strengthened presence in Spain and Portugal, and a rapidly expanding team, Ecija faces the next cycle with the ambition and resources necessary to continue climbing the rankings.
“These results reflect the rigorous and sustained work of our teams. We continue to grow in the areas where the market needs us most.”
