Carlos Silva is a lawyer with 15 years of experience specializing in labor and corporate law, recognized for his analytical and positive approach in both his personal and professional life. He deeply values work-life balance, emphasizing the importance of quality time with loved ones to maintain that balance. Professionally, he has developed a solid career ranging from handling simple cases to high-profile matters, allowing him to cultivate effective communication at all levels within the companies he advises. His experience includes valuable international expertise that has enriched his strategic vision and his ability to add value beyond the legal sphere, integrating organizational and commercial aspects. He currently leads LaborLab with a clear vision for sustainable growth and consolidation as a specialized, modern, and client-focused firm.

From a young age, Carlos has been immersed in the legal world, influenced by the example and career of his father, José Carlos Silva , a distinguished lawyer and notary with over 40 years of experience. This legacy of commitment and professional excellence has been the foundation upon which Carlos has built his own path, always with an eye toward contributing to and growing within the LaborLab project. In this interview, he shares his vision of his role and how he seeks to contribute to the firm’s development and success.

LaborLab: a renewed brand that reflects learning, transformation and strategic vision

“My evolution at LaborLab has been a process of learning and transformation. I arrived 15 years ago, with previous experience at another firm and several years in the judicial branch.” Carlos Silva explained that at first it was a “challenge, because the practice areas were different from those I was used to, but over time I specialized and made them my own.” A significant turning point was his experience in the United States, both academic and professional. “Upon returning, I came back with a more strategic mindset and a clear focus on how to add value to the business, not only from a legal perspective, but also from an organizational and commercial one. Part of that evolution was the rebranding to LaborLab Law Firm“A clearer, more modern brand, aligned with our vision for growth. I’ve always been clear that my role isn’t to wait for what LaborLab can give me, but to think about how I can continue contributing to the project’s growth.”

“We don’t aim to be the biggest, but the most relevant to clients seeking an agile, specialized, and committed firm.”

When asked about the value proposition that sets them apart from other large firms, Carlos replied, “It’s based on deep specialization in labor and corporate law, with a preventative approach that protects our clients’ reputations. We provide them with clear answers, practical solutions, and we adapt to both local and multinational companies. What distinguishes us is long-term trust: several of the companies we advise have been with us for over 30 years.”

We’re entering the second half of the year, what will be Carlos’s biggest challenge as we close out 2025?

My biggest challenge as we close out 2025 is to consolidate the growth we’ve driven throughout the year. We’ve invested in marketing, international networks, and internal restructuring, and now the goal is to translate that effort into lasting relationships with new clients, especially those internationally and within the Salvadoran diaspora. At the same time, I want to strengthen our team, delegate strategically, and achieve a balance between expansion and sustainability. The end of the year will be crucial to solidifying everything we’ve built.

“Our goal is to consolidate the LaborLab brand as a benchmark in the areas we handle, combining technical depth with approachability and trust.”

How do you see the future of the firm?

I envision the firm’s future as increasingly positioned and recognized for its specialization in labor and corporate law. Our goal is to solidify the LaborLab brand as a benchmark in our areas of expertise, combining technical depth with a personal touch and trustworthy approach. We aim to remain the strategic advisors for our key clients, with whom we have built long-term relationships, while also attracting new clients who value direct engagement, strategic thinking, and a boutique approach. We are not striving to be the largest firm, but rather the most relevant for clients seeking an agile, specialized, and committed firm, including those with a vision for growth or an international presence.

Growth forecasts: “The goal is not to grow for the sake of growth, but to build a solid and relevant firm”

In the coming months, our growth projections are focused on two key areas: consolidating our presence in the Salvadoran market with a more proactive approach to marketing and business development, and continuing to strengthen our international position through alliances and legal networks. We aim to bring in young talent, enhance our internal processes, and continue evolving into a more structured firm, while maintaining the close client relationships that define us. Our goal is not growth for the sake of growth, but rather to build a solid and relevant firm with long-term relationships.

Leadership with a view to developing the LaborLab brand internationally

Carlos Silva said that in recent years he has focused on acquiring new clients and developing the LaborLab brand both within and outside of El Salvador. “I have led the transition to a more visible firm with an international presence, and I have fostered a more proactive culture within the team.”

“Modernizing ourselves is not about leaving behind what defines us, but about adapting to remain effective and relevant”

Regarding how they are responding to these client needs and the future of the legal market, the managing partner of LaborLab responded that “we are addressing the new needs of the legal market through strategic alliances that allow us to offer regional coverage to clients operating beyond El Salvador. Furthermore, we are developing digital solutions that will allow us to provide more immediate and agile responses, without sacrificing the technical quality and personalized service that characterize us. For us, modernizing is not about abandoning what defines us, but rather adapting to remain effective and relevant.”

On an anecdotal level, what cases/clients have marked a turning point in the way you practice law?

Two experiences have shaped my approach to practicing law. The first was guiding a client from the very beginning of their business: we incorporated their company, advised them on their first contract, and today they are a leading company in their sector, with operations in several countries. Being part of that growth made me appreciate the strategic role of the lawyer from the very foundation of the business.

The second was with a company that contacted us many years ago regarding a specific and sensitive issue, where discretion was paramount. As a result of that case, we became their trusted legal partners, and today we represent all the companies in their group. That relationship taught me that providing sound advice to clients during times of crisis fosters genuine trust and allows for the development of strong and lasting relationships.

“We are proud of the path we have traveled”

“Since my father founded the firm, LaborLab has been recognized for its professionalism, specialization, and close client relationships. We have supported key companies in the country for decades. But we also know that the environment changes and client needs evolve. That’s why we want to continue growing. We are in a transformation process, focusing on international positioning, strategic alliances, and internal strengthening, to remain relevant and strategic for the companies that trust us.”

Finally, he asserted that, although they have made significant progress, they are not where they want to be. “And that is precisely what drives us to keep moving forward.”

In short…

What’s the smartest thing anyone has ever told you (and who said it)? I had a mentor who told me that it’s more important to be interested than to be interesting. This means that the person who engages, asks questions, and wants to learn usually goes further than the one who, in theory, has everything in their favor. Who (for better or for worse) has been the person who has most influenced your career? Why? Definitely, the people who have most influenced my career—for the better—have been my parents. They are both lawyers, although with different paths. My father founded the firm and has mentored many professionals, including me. From him, I learned that it’s not enough for the client to know you have the knowledge; They also need to feel that they will be treated with honesty and transparency, because those values are just as important as technical ability. My mother built her career at the Ministry of Finance, eventually leading the legal division, and from her I learned that the quality of your work speaks for itself, which is why you have to do things right from the start. And, to be honest, I’ve also had some bosses who taught me—by contrast—how I don’t want to treat my employees.
