EY Abogados has appointed Ignacio Grangel as partner in charge of the Public Law and Regulated Sectors practice. He also joins the firm’s Energy Sector team. A former State Attorney, Grangel has extensive experience in the energy sector, having held significant positions in both the public and private sectors. He is recognized by the international directory Chambers & Partners in the Energy & Natural Resources and Public Law categories.

A graduate in Law from the University of Zaragoza, the new partner of EY Abogados joined the State Lawyers Corps in 2004. In this role, he has practiced before practically all jurisdictional instances and in investment arbitration, highlighting his role as State lawyer before the National Court in regulated sectors such as energy and telecommunications, and administrative contracting.
Between 2012 and 2015, he served as Director of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Energy, a period during which he was involved in drafting energy regulations. Subsequently, he was Director of Legal Affairs and Deputy Secretary General of Red Eléctrica, a position he held between 2015 and 2017. Following this, he served as an independent director of Enagás, a member of the Expert Commission on Energy Transition Scenarios (a group created by the Council of Ministers in July 2017), and Chairman of the Iberian Electricity Market Operator.
In 2019, he joined a national firm as the partner in charge of the Public Law and Regulated Sectors department, where he has advised on regulatory matters in the energy and telecommunications sectors, in their defense before the Courts of Justice and arbitrations, and in acquisition and sale operations of energy assets, for national and international clients.
