Perez & Co., a Colombian boutique firm specializing in strategic and business-oriented legal advice, announced the addition of Julian David Ruiz Rondan as a new partner, a move that consolidates the firm’s growth and expands its services to sectors related to intellectual property, creative industries, entertainment, and new technologies.
With more than 12 years of professional experience, Julián joins Perez & Co. to open and lead the Intellectual Property, Entertainment Law and New Technologies practices, areas that respond to the transformation of industries in which intangible assets, content, innovation and technology have an increasing weight in business models.
The arrival of Julián also represents a new stage in the evolution of Perez & Co., which since its creation in 2024 has been consolidating a boutique firm model based on personalized advice, specialized knowledge, and pragmatic legal solutions. The firm has practices in Dispute Resolution, Litigation, Arbitration, Insolvency, Insurance and Reinsurance, Corporate Law, Class Actions, and Civil and Product Liability, among others.
For Christian Pérez, founding partner of Perez & Co., the addition of Julián reflects both the evolution of the firm and its commitment to supporting clients in transforming industries:
“We are delighted and excited to welcome Julián as a new partner to the firm, where he will launch and lead our new Intellectual Property, Entertainment, and New Technologies practices. I had the pleasure of working with him several years ago and know firsthand not only his exceptional qualities as a lawyer and his pragmatism, but also what a wonderful person he is. Julián shares our firm’s value of always putting our clients’ business first.”
Julián has spent much of his career in the fields of intellectual property, copyright, and entertainment, with experience in litigation, negotiation and contract structuring, creative industries, audiovisual content, digital platforms, artists, and record labels, among other areas. He has also worked on matters related to technology, advertising, and brand portfolio management.
His arrival at Perez & Co. also comes at a time of international recognition for his career. In the 2016 editions of Chambers Global and Chambers Latin America, Julián was included in the “Associates to Watch” category for Intellectual Property, where Chambers highlights his active practice in copyright law and emphasizes his technical knowledge, as well as his ability to offer prompt and efficient advice.
For its part, The Legal 500 recognizes him as a “Leading Associate” in Intellectual Property in Colombia and highlights his experience in copyright and entertainment law.
For Julián, joining the firm presents the challenge of building a practice that combines legal expertise with a deep understanding of business and the transformation that the creative and technological industries are undergoing:
“Becoming a partner at Perez & Co. represents an opportunity to leverage my experience and passion for Intellectual Property, Entertainment, and New Technologies for a firm that shares my vision of providing personalized, strategic, and business-focused advice. I embrace the challenge of building a practice that goes beyond simply protecting rights, helping our clients create innovative strategies that maximize the value of their intangible assets. I am thrilled to be teaming up with Christian again, as his approach to conflict resolution, combined with my focus on highly innovative industries, offers unique solutions that address current market needs.”
With this addition, Perez & Co. expands its capacity to serve companies and professionals in sectors where law, technology, content and business converge, while continuing to strengthen its model of a specialized firm that is close to the client.
The addition of Julián Ruiz is part of Perez & Co.’s growth process, which seeks to combine the experience of its partners with new legal capabilities to respond to the needs of local and multinational companies and support them in increasingly complex matters.
