Cuatrecasas approved the appointment of five new partners. Three of them are internal promotions: Borja Álvarez (Arbitration – Spain), Vanessa Castelló (Tax Litigation – Spain), and Xavier Morera (Corporate – Spain); and two are new additions: Amory Heine (Tax – Chile) and Francisco Iso (Corporate – Spain). The appointments took place during the firm’s Annual General Meeting of Partners held on April 16 in Madrid. During the meeting, the appointment of four new councilors was also made public: Javier Calle (Tax – Spain), Javier Díaz (Public – Spain), Estefanía Portillo (Litigation – Spain) and Cristina Vila (Competition – Spain).
Borja Álvarez is an expert in complex litigation with an international component, commercial arbitration, and investment arbitration. He has a solid track record in disputes arising from M&A transactions, as well as in the energy, infrastructure, construction, and real estate sectors. He has extensive experience in proceedings for the recognition and enforcement of international awards and judgments, as well as in the granting of interim measures. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and the New York Bar Association.
Vanessa Castelló has extensive experience in Spanish and European Union tax law, specializing in tax litigation. She regularly advises on the preparation and handling of administrative claims and legal appeals, as well as on tax management, collection, and inspection procedures. She also advises high-net-worth individuals on personal and wealth taxation, particularly in the sports and entertainment sectors. She is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and the Spanish Association of Tax Advisors (AEDAF).
Amory Heine is a renowned tax law specialist with a solid track record at international firms, where she has co-led multi-jurisdictional tax practices in Latin America. She has extensive experience in taxation, tax litigation, and wealth planning, as well as in leading and coordinating specialized teams. She has also actively participated in advanced tax training programs and in the technical debate within the discipline.
Francisco Iso specializes in private equity, venture capital, and leveraged buyouts, advising national and international funds on private and public-to-private transactions. He has extensive experience in M&A, as well as in the design of joint ventures and strategic agreements, with a particular focus on the aerospace and defense industry. He is a member of the Barcelona Bar Association.
Xavier Morera has extensive experience in M&A transactions, private equity and venture capital investments, as well as in designing incentive plans and rollover structures. He advises funds, corporations, founders, and technology startups on investments in various sectors, with a particular focus on technology. He also provides ongoing advice on corporate and commercial law and serves as secretary to the board of directors of several companies.

Javier Calle specializes in corporate tax advice for financial and debt transactions. He has extensive experience in large-scale transactions, including financings, refinancings, bond issuances, securitizations, and debt restructurings, as well as the acquisition of distressed portfolios. He also advises large companies and investors in the financial and real estate sectors on direct and indirect taxation. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
Javier Díaz advises companies and public administrations on administrative law, public procurement, urban planning, environmental law, and sanctioning law. Estefanía Portillo specializes in civil litigation, arbitration, and mediation. She has extensive experience in class action lawsuits and litigation related to civil and commercial contracts, advising clients in the consumer, real estate, construction, and engineering sectors. She is a member of the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Cristina Vila is an expert in economics and competition law. She advises national and international clients on investigations before competition authorities, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory matters, as well as proceedings before the European Commission, the CNMC (Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission), and the courts of the European Union. She also has extensive experience in regulatory compliance in the field of competition law. She is a member of the Barcelona Bar Association.
