Miranda & Amado strengthens Criminal Law practice with new partner, counsel, and two associates

By Heidi Maldonado

Miranda & Amado has announced the strategic strengthening of its Criminal Law practice, as part of a long-term vision aimed at consolidating a robust, specialized corporate criminal practice with comprehensive capacity to handle high-complexity mandates in an increasingly demanding regulatory and compliance environment.

In line with this strategy, the firm has incorporated Alfonso Sánchez as partner, Adriana Tagle as counsel, and María Fernanda Gutiérrez and Luis Arauzo as associates, thereby expanding its capacity to provide comprehensive corporate criminal advisory services, with a focus on prevention, compliance, and defense in corporate criminal investigations and proceedings.

Alfonso Sánchez, with over 32 years of professional experience, has extensive expertise in Criminal Law, specializing in procedural and constitutional-criminal matters, as well as consulting, criminal risk prevention, regulatory compliance, and high-complexity criminal litigation, having represented companies and their executives in criminal matters related to corporate activities. He also brings public sector experience after serving in the Public Ministry – National Prosecutor’s Office for ten years.

“The strengthening of our Criminal Law practice seeks to consolidate a comprehensive approach that combines litigation experience, knowledge of the regulatory environment, and a solid preventive strategy,” stated José Luis Velarde, partner in Miranda & Amado’s Criminal Law practice.

This strengthening is complemented by Adriana Tagle, whose practice focuses on Economic and Corporate Criminal Law, with emphasis on complex criminal investigations and litigation, as well as preventive advisory and criminal compliance. She has experience representing companies and senior executives, and implementing compliance programs and criminal risk management.

The practice also includes María Fernanda Gutiérrez and Luis Arauzo as associates. María Fernanda brings experience in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, as well as handling consultations on criminal compliance matters. She has extensive experience in criminal litigation, and her practice encompasses consultations, investigations, and criminal proceedings, particularly those related to economic and corporate offenses. For his part, Luis has over 20 years of professional experience in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, with broad expertise in consulting and criminal litigation, both from his early stage in the Public Ministry and in independent practice.

“This strengthening of our Criminal Law practice responds to a strategic decision by the firm, aligned with our clients’ current needs, enabling us to provide a more robust and integrated response to the criminal risks companies face today, both in contentious matters and in risk prevention and management,” commented Mauricio Raffo, Managing Partner of Miranda & Amado.

With this strengthening, Miranda & Amado reaffirms its commitment to developing strategic practices and maintaining a team prepared to support its clients in increasingly complex corporate criminal scenarios, with technical rigor and a comprehensive business perspective.
