Garrigues secures first financing for pioneering US$26.5 million project for hybrid solar microgrids in the Peruvian Amazon

By Heidi Maldonado

Solartia Generación Perú SAC and Solartia Distribución Perú SAC (together, Solartia) are developing five new concessions for hybrid solar microgrids with storage in the Peruvian Amazon: the Iparia, El Caco, Nueva Italia, Bolognesi and Sepahua projects, in the Ucayali region.

The projects comprise over 10.2 MWp of solar generation and approximately 26.8 MWh of battery storage, and are designed to provide clean and reliable 24/7 electricity to more than 43,000 direct beneficiaries in rural communities, who previously relied on diesel generators for approximately 6 hours a day or lacked a stable electricity supply. In one case, they will provide electricity for the first time.

Garrigues acted as Peruvian legal advisor to ImpactA Global, as well as structurer, investor, and agent, for a US$26.5 million bond issuance for Solartia, which closed on August 12, 2026. This transaction represents the first project financing for hybrid solar microgrids with storage in Peru. Furthermore, the projects constitute the largest portfolio of hybrid microgrids with storage in Peru’s rural electrification sector.

Garrigues partner Diego Harman, who led the transaction, highlighted its significance: “This transaction represents a milestone in Solartia’s efforts to offer sustainable energy solutions to rural communities in the Amazon through hybrid microgrids. It also underscores the ongoing transformation of Peru’s rural electrification framework by promoting more resilient and scalable community energy systems that integrate generation, storage, and reliable service.”

Solartia’s five hybrid microgrid projects

Located in Ucayali in the Peruvian Amazon, the five projects are designed to provide reliable electricity through isolated rural systems. Unlike projects based on individual solar kits with limited capacity, Solartia’s microgrids integrate grid-scale photovoltaic generation, battery storage, and backup power to provide continuous and reliable energy to entire communities, representing a new generation of rural electrification in Peru.
