Ecija announced the addition of Marco Quesada as director of the Environmental Law area, as well as the formal launch of its environmental and sustainability practice for Central America, strengthening its regional positioning in legal advice related to environmental compliance, ESG and sustainable transition.
“Marco’s addition reflects a clear strategic vision: to support our clients in the regulatory, environmental, and climate challenges that directly impact their business decisions today. Environmental law and sustainability are no longer secondary areas. Today, they are central to corporate management, access to financing, and corporate reputation,” stated Mauricio París, managing partner of Ecija Costa Rica.
For his part, Marco Quesada highlighted the focus of the new practice: “I am joining Ecija with the goal of building a modern, rigorous environmental practice aligned with the international standards demanded today by investors, regulators, and markets”, he stated. He added that “Costa Rica and the region are facing a profound environmental and climate transformation, and the role of the lawyer is to become a strategic partner that helps organizations anticipate risks and generate value through sustainability”.

She has over 10 years of experience in Environmental Law and Sustainability, with a distinguished track record in regulatory compliance, environmental audits, due diligence processes, environmental litigation and greenhouse gas management, both in Costa Rica and in other countries in Central America, the Caribbean and the United States.
Before joining Ecija, he served as Regional Director of the Environmental Department at a Central American firm and as Sustainability and Environmental Law Manager at Ernst & Young (EY), where he led complex projects for companies in multiple sectors and industries.
He holds a law degree and a Master’s degree in Environmental Law from the University of Costa Rica and has a solid technical background as a lead and internal auditor in ISO standards, as well as specialized certifications in carbon neutrality, greenhouse gas verification and GRI standards.
The launch of the practice will allow Ecija to offer specialized advice on environmental and regulatory compliance, ESG and corporate sustainability, environmental due diligence in M&A transactions, waste management, circular economy, climate change, carbon footprint, carbon neutrality and environmental litigation, integrating across the corporate, energy, infrastructure, TMT, compliance and dispute resolution areas.
With this addition, the firm reaffirms its commitment to the growth of strategic practices related to sustainability, regulatory innovation and comprehensive support for companies with operations in Costa Rica and Latin America.
