The New York Mets inaugurated a completely renovated, state-of-the-art high-performance sports center at their academy in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, marking a significant investment in the organization’s player development infrastructure.
Ecija Dominican Republic represented the New York Mets in the expansion and modernization project, with an investment of approximately $10 million. The Ecija team provided comprehensive counsel throughout the entire process, handling the drafting and negotiation of the construction contract, as well as legal assistance in contractual, tax, construction law, and insurance matters, ensuring the project’s successful execution from both a legal and business perspective.
The operation was led by Gabriel Dejarden, partner and director of the NOLA Region of Ecija, along with Edward Salcedo, partner of Ecija Dominican Republic.
The Mets have had a presence in the country for several decades. With this flagship project, they are strengthening their long-standing commitment to developing elite international talent within the organization.
The new facilities include a 10,000-square-foot gym with a nutrition area, 18 suite-style rooms with individual workspaces, two new classrooms, offices, and an expanded training area with hot and cold plunge pools. Other improvements include a 60-yard agility course, a 5,200-square-foot expansion of batting cages, and a completely renovated clubhouse. The project also incorporated 12 new player rooms within the existing complex.
This transaction reinforces Ecija’s experience in advising on international investment projects and developments linked to the sports sector, consolidating its position in the regional market and in high-impact operations.
