Clifford Chance is reorganizing its structure in Spain. The British firm will consolidate its Barcelona-based teams, currently advising on corporate, financial, and commercial transactions, into its Madrid office. The Barcelona office will retain the litigation and intellectual property practice, headed by partner Miquel Montañá.
Sources at the firm link the change to the scale that the capital office has reached: “Following the success of our strategy in Spain and with the aim of further boosting our future growth, we are consolidating our transactional practices from the Barcelona office with our teams in Madrid, where we already have significant scale and resources.”
The firm argues that the consolidation of teams will strengthen service to its clients: “We will be able to offer an even more robust platform to our clients, by bringing all our expertise together in one location, while maintaining the connectivity of our global network.”
The reorganization separates the specialties of the two offices. Madrid will house the firm’s transactional activity in Spain, while Barcelona will retain the litigation and intellectual property practice. Clifford Chance opened its first Spanish office in Madrid in 1980 and arrived in Barcelona thirteen years later, in 1993.
