TozziniFreire celebrates 50 years with focus on strategic growth

By Heidi Maldonado

TozziniFreire, one of the largest law firms in Brazil, celebrated its 50th anniversary this week. Over these five decades, it has established itself as one of the leaders in legal services in Latin America. With its full-service practice throughout Brazil, the firm covers virtually all areas of Business Law and has built a remarkable track record advising domestic and international companies across a wide range of industries.

Major transactions are part of the firm’s history. TozziniFreire was founded and grew while working on some of the most significant Mergers and Acquisitions transactions in the Brazilian market over the course of nearly five decades. In the first half of 2026, the firm ranked among the top ten legal advisors in Brazil by deal value in buy-side M&A transactions, according to TTR Data, advising on transactions exceeding BRL 6.5 billion.

The firm’s greatest recognition during the period came in Equity Capital Markets (ECM), where TozziniFreire achieved first place among legal advisors in Brazil by deal value, advising on transactions totaling more than BRL 12.3 billion during the period.

In addition to a series of anniversary celebrations, the continuation of this important 50-year legacy remains a priority. TozziniFreire continues to strengthen its position as one of the largest full-service law firms in Brazil through a series of initiatives:

Strengthening teams and growth in promising regions across Brazil

In 2026 alone, we expanded our team of excellence with the addition of six partners, Laura Freitas, Gustavo Rugani, Flávia Leardini, Cinthia de Lamare, Rubens Granja, and Natássia Misae Ueno, continuing our growth plans and strengthening our capabilities in Infrastructure & Energy, Capital Markets, M&A, Corporate, White-Collar Crimes, Restructuring & Insolvency, and Life Sciences & Healthcare, respectively.

In addition to the new partners, between 2025 and 2026, the firm appointed more than 30 associates to its counsel group, through both lateral hires and the promotion of our talent, significantly strengthening all teams.

We opened our new Belo Horizonte office, under the leadership of Gustavo Rugani, bringing even greater value to our transactional team in one of the most important regions of the country.

International leadership

As part of the expansion of its already well-established global presence, we celebrated our 50th anniversary in New York through a series of celebrations and strategic visits attended by our founder and several international partners, demonstrating the strength and leadership of the firm on the international stage.

Our international strategy continues to be supported by 7 international desks and long-standing relationships with more than 300 different players in the global market, built through many years of work by our partners and strengthened by the international organizations of which we are members, such as the World Law Group (WLG), International Bar Association (IBA), Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), L&E Global, and PrivacyRules.

Leadership in technology and innovation

With eight years of existence of the firm’s innovation program, ThinkFuture, TozziniFreire reaffirms its strategic position as an innovative law firm through tangible results. The program has undergone a broad transformation and has firmly placed Artificial Intelligence on its priority agenda and at the center of the firm’s decision-making process.

Our AI platform, TF/AILA, has evolved to a new stage and now leverages GPT technology, as well as Copilot and Claude, enabling significantly greater precision and productivity in our work. In addition, the innovation program has delivered more than 10 integrated agents, 1,000 visual law projects, and more than 100 initiatives related to data analytics, business intelligence, and dashboards.

Our investments in technology have increased by approximately 37% over the past two years, supported by a comprehensive overhaul of all our platforms and the implementation of automations that have enabled greater efficiency and productivity.

Performance in this area is recognized by the market and reflects values that are part of the firm’s DNA. In the current Chambers Brazil rankings for Data Protection and Technology, TozziniFreire stands out as the only law firm with four women recognized in Data Protection and three women recognized in Technology, reinforcing the role of female leadership in areas that are central to digital transformation and innovation.

Valuing diversity, inclusion, and pro bono initiatives

We are the first law firm in Brazil to have a practice exclusively dedicated to advising companies on Human Rights, staffed by a team composed of 67% women, 67% Afro-descendants, and 100% LGBTI+ individuals. The firm also maintains a balance between men and women on its Executive Committee, and its legal and administrative departments are predominantly composed of women, who represent 69% of the workforce in both departments.

Our pro bono initiatives focus on generating positive systemic impacts or multiplying them. Examples include our legal aid drives: (1) in the Heliópolis community, aimed at providing legal guidance to members of the community on a wide range of topics; (2) focused on transgender individuals, assisting with the amendment of names and gender markers in legal documents, including covering related costs; and (3) providing guidance to professionals working in the firm’s administrative and outsourced functions regarding their rights, helping them address their legal issues.

Business development strength and high-quality legal content

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, TozziniFreire recently launched its brand-new website, offering a faster and simpler mobile-first experience. All content can be accessed quickly, with the agility that the market demands.

In addition, with a focus on client and market engagement, knowledge sharing, and brand strengthening, TozziniFreire has its own in-house studio for video content production, equipped with state-of-the-art technology for recording short videos, podcasts, and videocasts at a professional standard.

Since TozziniFreire’s last anniversary, more than 500 pieces of content have been published across our digital communication channels. We became the third law firm in the country to surpass 200,000 followers on LinkedIn. Across all social media platforms combined, we recorded 10% growth (nearly 30,000) in total followers, achieving national leadership in engagement.

As a result of all these initiatives, the firm has increased its efficiency, delivering more personalized and higher-quality content to clients and contributing to discussions around a more modern legal system aligned with the future.

Recognition that reflects our journey

We have consolidated our position among the leading law firms in Latin America, reflected in consistent market recognition. In Chambers Brazil 2026, we were ranked in 39 practice areas and received 90 individual recognitions, representing increases of 3% and 9%, respectively, compared to 2025. In the most prominent categories, growth was even more significant, with an 8% increase in Band 1 practice areas and a 15% increase in Top Ranked professionals.

In addition, the firm recently received nine awards at the Chambers Brazil Awards and the Legal 500 Brazil Awards, across both firmwide and individual categories. The firm was also named Law Firm of the Year at The Latin American Lawyer Women Awards and Work-Life Balance LATAM Firm of the Year by the Women in Business Law Awards.

Recognition also extends to the transactions in which we have been involved. The Marfrig-BRF merger, advised by TozziniFreire, received the Domestic M&A Deal of the Year award from LatinFinance and M&A Public Companies at the Latin Lawyer Deal of the Year Awards, reinforcing the firm’s presence in some of the most strategic and complex transactions in the market.
