SPS-Barrilero became the first law firm in Portugal to commit to the corporate implementation of Mowly, the new Portuguese artificial intelligence platform developed specifically for the legal sector. This strategic and innovative decision reinforces the firm’s position at the forefront of the digital transformation of the legal profession, integrating artificial intelligence across its daily operations.
Unlike general-purpose solutions available on the market, Mowly allows lawyers to maintain complete control over how artificial intelligence analyzes, structures, and produces legal information. Based on a database created from more than 10 Portuguese data sources—including legislation, case law, and legal scholarship—the platform achieves accuracy levels of around 95% and efficiency gains of up to 80% in time savings, without compromising technical rigor.
Miguel Fidalgo and Francisco Costa, founders of Mowly, joined specialists from different areas of law and legal professionals to respond to a need identified in the market: to create an AI solution adapted to Portuguese legal practice and aligned with the demands of lawyers.
“The alliance with SPS-Barrilero demonstrates that artificial intelligence in the legal sector has ceased to be a future prospect and has assumed a concrete role in the daily practice of the most innovative firms. More than a technological evolution, this is a decisive step for the modernization of the legal profession in Portugal, making legal services more efficient, strategic, and prepared for the challenges of a new era,” highlighted Miguel Fidalgo and Francisco Costa.
SPS-Barrilero forged this alliance at a time when digital transformation is accelerating internationally, assuming a pioneering position in the integration of AI into legal practice in Portugal. The firm’s commitment went beyond technological implementation, supporting Mowly from its inception and actively contributing to the development of functionalities tailored to the specific needs of the legal profession.
The use of Mowly at SPS-Barrilero has allowed us to strengthen legal research processes, document automation, contract analysis, internal knowledge management and optimization of repetitive tasks, generating significant gains in efficiency and productivity without compromising technical rigor.
For SPS-Barrilero, this commitment “represents not only a technological evolution, but also a structural change in the way legal services will be provided,” stated Manuel Gibert Prates, partner at the firm.
The firm has been consolidating its position as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, following international digitalization trends and anticipating the impact of artificial intelligence on the sector. This project reflects an ongoing strategy of modernization and adaptation to the evolving demands of the legal market.
This positioning was further recognized with the awarding of the 2026 International Artificial Intelligence Award, a distinction that highlighted SPS-Barrilero’s use of artificial intelligence in monitoring complex operations, managing long-term projects, and optimizing ongoing client relationships. The award also acknowledged the integration of technology as a driver of innovation and added value in the provision of legal services.
The alliance between SPS-Barrilero and Mowly also strengthens the value of the Portuguese technology ecosystem, demonstrating the ability of national solutions to compete in a global market. With an initial presence in Portugal and expansion already underway in markets such as Spain, Brazil, and Macau, both organizations are working together towards the goal of establishing Mowly as a leading European legaltech company.
